How to conduct a simple random sample
The steps in conducting a simple random sample are listed below.
- Identify or draw up a sampling frame.
- Number each unit on the list in sequence from 1 to N (where N is the size of the study population).
- Choose a random selection of the required number of units by:
- Using random number tables
- Using random numbers generated by a calculator or a computer programme (for example, Excel).
