Aims and objectives
Aim
This session explains the generalization of the stable population model to open populations with changing age structures and introduces several methods of estimation based on this model of population dynamics.
Objectives
At the end of this session you should be able to:
- Explain the principles of the generalized stable population theory
- Calculate the age structure of any population from age-specific data on its vital rates and growth
- Identify the circumstances in which variable growth rate methods based on generalized stable population theory can be used for demographic estimation
- Use variable growth rate methods to estimate life tables for mortality and other decrements affecting a population.
This session will take approximately 5 hours to complete.
